SAMSUNG GALAXY 3 SMARTPHONE

The Samsung Galaxy 3 was one of the cheapest Android phones on the market when it launched in late 2010. For the whole first week, I was paranoid about the body and screen being stained and scratched. This is one big reason I hate gadgets with glossy fi nishes, but in this case, I decided to overlook that because it was the best option in the Rs 12,000 price bracket. For the fi rst three days, I was hunting high and low for a cover, since the bundled one didn't fi t well at all. It seemed like Samsung had thrown in the cover meant for the Corby, and I flung it into the bin as soon as I opened the package. Another disappointment was the plastic film on the phone; it would have been more useful (and environmentally friendly) if it hadn't had a big Android logo and printed text on it.
After a few days of carrying the Galaxy 3 around, I got the shock  of  my  life  when  it  fell  on  the  road  and  popped  open into three pieces—phone, back cover and battery. Thankfully, the screen didn't crack and the phone worked fine after putting it back together, but one of the corners got grazed.
More than communicating, I use the Galaxy 3 to listen to music, watch videos and play games. So far, I haven’t faced any problems with the phone, but what I hate is the bundled management utility called Samsung Kies. It’s bloated, quirky and doesn't back up messages. I’ve switched over to My Phone Explorer, which is way better. At present, my phone is rooted and I've flashed it with the Android 2.2 ROM developed for the Samsung i5800. I couldn't wait for Samsung to release an official 2.2 update for the Galaxy 3, and they've really been taking their time over it. I haven’t had any incompatibility issues till now. In fact, I find my phone more responsive, and the best part is the ability to install apps on the SD card.
