The chiselled design on the MK-1
tells you it is inspired by an alien
ship. When you remove the front
and top bezels and slide out the side
panel, you’ll see that this case has been
designed well. A 200 mm LED exhaust
fan is fitted on the top, and another one
has been fitted on the front for pulling in
air. Even the 5.25-inch bay covers have
sponge lining as filters. This cabinet
can house four 5.25-inch drives and
six 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch hard drives. To
install hard drives, you have to fit them
into removable trays, connect the cables
and slide them into place. The power
supply sits at the bottom. Ventilation is
provided for the PSU intake fan which
faces downwards, and the dust filter can
be removed for cleaning. To reduce cable
clutter and facilitate airflow, cutouts
are provided for routing power and data
cables behind the motherboard. I/O ports
are housed on the front top area. A key
feature is the provision of a hard drive
dock; slide a naked 2.5-inch or a 3.5-inch
drive into it for instant access. Buttons
for regulating fan speed and changing
LED color, the USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports
and a single eSATA port are placed on
either side of the hard drive dock. The
build quality of the case is top notch
and installing expansion cards, optical
drives and hard drives is a breeze.
VERDICT: A great-looking cabinet with excellent airflow and easy installation.
FOR: Brilliant design, hard drive dock, front USB 3.0, eSATA ports, great cooling.
AGAINST: None.
