At the heart of the Radeon HD
6770 is a GPU with 800 stream
processors clocking in at 850 MHz.
The card has 1 GB of GDDR5 memory
which runs at 1.2 GHz and connects to
the GPU via a 128-bit wide bus, making it
suitable for entry-level gaming machines.
The design has been kept simple, with a
circular finned heatsink for the GPU and
a separate smaller heatsink for the power
phases at the end of the card. It draws
power from a single 6-pin PCIe power
connector. The rear panel has D-sub, DVI
and HDMI 1.4a video outputs, which are
common features of mainstream cards.
The performance is comparable to the
current generation GeForce GTX 550 Ti;
the latter being slightly more powerful.
This card scored 10117 points in 3DMark
Vantage and 2824 points in 3DMark 11.
Gaming at full HD is possible but with AA
kept low or disabled. At 1920x1080, Crysis
Warhead ran at 34.7 fps in Gamer mode
with no AA. Our test rig also ran Mafia 2
with the PhysX set to medium on GTX
550 Ti, whereas the AMD GPU doesn’t
support PhysX, causing a CPU bottleneck.
If your budget is under Rs 10,000, our
recommendation is the GTX 550 Ti. If you
can’t stretch beyond Rs 8,000, get the
Radeon HD 5770, which is still retailing
for Rs 7,500. Tell yourself it’s the HD
6770 and you’ll be more than happy!
VERDICT: Old wine in a new bottle!
FOR: Efficient cooler, heat sink for voltage regulators.
AGAINST: Nothing new to offer, slightly noisy at full load.
